Dr. Glynn offers occlusal splints and equilibration (also known as occlusal adjustment) to help ease pain caused by TMJ disorder. Occlusal splints are similar to nightguards, except they’re specially designed to shift the jaw into its ideal position to ease strain on one or both of the temporomandibular joints. Over time, regular use of the splint can minimize and even erase uncomfortable symptoms of TMJD.
If your TMJD is the result of improperly fitted dental restorations, like fillings or crowns, Dr. Glynn also offers occlusal adjustments, also known as equilibration. This treatment involves altering the fit of the restorations to even out the bite and reduce strain on one or both of the jaw joints.
